Netflix Launches ‘Playground’ App to Expand into Kids’ Gaming:

Netflix is stepping further into the gaming space with the launch of Netflix Playground, a new standalone app designed specifically for children. Available as part of a Netflix subscription, the app is completely free of ads and in-app purchases.

Aimed at kids aged eight and under, Netflix Playground offers access to a growing collection of interactive games featuring characters from popular children’s shows. At launch, the app includes titles like Playtime With Peppa Pig, where kids can explore fun activities in Peppa’s world, and a Sesame Street game focused on memory and coordination skills. Additional games such as Storybots, Let’s Color, and Bad Dinosaurs are also part of the lineup.

The app is currently available in select countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Philippines, and New Zealand, with a global rollout scheduled for April 28. It supports both iOS and Android devices.

One of its standout features is offline accessibility, allowing children to play games without needing an internet connection—making it ideal for travel or on-the-go entertainment.

Netflix says the goal is to create an interactive environment where kids can go beyond watching shows and actively engage with their favorite characters. The company envisions the app as a space for discovery, learning, and play, seamlessly blending entertainment with interactivity.

Although Netflix entered the gaming industry in 2021 with ambitious plans, it has since scaled back after limited success, including shutting down several game development studios. With Netflix Playground, the company appears to be refining its strategy by focusing on a younger audience and more accessible gaming experiences.
