Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: Bluesky Previews 2026 Roadmap with Smarter Discovery and Real-Time Upgrades

Bluesky Previews 2026 Roadmap with Smarter Discovery and Real-Time Upgrades:

Bluesky is offering an early look at its 2026 roadmap, outlining plans to improve content discovery, enhance real-time interactions, and deliver better recommendations across the platform.

The decentralized social network said it plans to refine its algorithmic Discover feed, make it easier for users to find relevant accounts to follow, and give the app a more live, in-the-moment feel. At the same time, the company acknowledged that it still needs to strengthen some foundational features.

Bluesky launched publicly in early 2024 after operating as an invite-only platform and has since grown to more than 42 million users, based on data from its developer API. While the platform stands out for its customizable feeds and configurable algorithms, it continues to lag behind competitors on core functionality.

Basic features such as private accounts, post drafts, and support for longer video uploads are still missing, putting Bluesky at a disadvantage compared to mainstream social networks like X and Threads.

In a recent post on Bluesky’s website, head of product Alex Benzer addressed these shortcomings, noting that the “basics need to be solid” before the company can expect long-term user retention.

The comments come amid signs of slowing engagement. According to Similarweb data cited by Forbes, Bluesky experienced a 40% year-over-year decline in daily active users as of October 2025, underscoring the urgency behind the platform’s renewed focus on product improvements.
