Boycott-Focused Apps Climb to the Top of Denmark’s App Store Amid U.S.–Greenland Tensions:
European consumers, particularly in Denmark, are increasingly pushing back against the United States following former President Donald Trump’s remarks about taking control of Greenland, a Danish territory. This backlash has sparked a surge in popularity for mobile apps that help users avoid American-made products and choose local alternatives instead.
In recent days, two such apps have risen rapidly to the top of the Danish App Store, which serves users in both Denmark and Greenland. The same trend is also visible on Google Play. These apps allow shoppers to identify whether a product is made in the U.S. and recommend non-American or locally produced substitutes.
The rise in downloads coincides with a broader, grassroots boycott movement among Danish consumers. Beyond avoiding U.S. products, many have reportedly canceled trips to the United States and dropped subscriptions to American streaming platforms such as Netflix.
According to data from app intelligence firm Appfigures, the apps NonUSA and Made O’Meter have both entered the top 10 rankings across iOS and Android this month. NonUSA, in particular, saw dramatic growth, climbing from No. 441 on January 9 to No. 6 on Tuesday, before reaching the No. 1 position on Wednesday.
NonUSA is designed specifically to support boycotts of American goods in everyday shopping. Users can scan product barcodes to check the country of origin and receive suggestions for Danish-made alternatives. The app’s strongest markets currently include Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland, highlighting a wider Nordic participation in the boycott of U.S. products.
