Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: LiveKit Reaches $1B Valuation After $100M Funding Round Amid Voice AI Boom

LiveKit Reaches $1B Valuation After $100M Funding Round Amid Voice AI Boom:

LiveKit, a company specializing in infrastructure software for real-time AI voice and video applications, has raised $100 million in new funding, pushing its valuation to $1 billion.

The investment round was led by Index Ventures and included continued support from existing backers such as Altimeter Capital Management, Hanabi Capital, and Redpoint Ventures. This raise comes just 10 months after the company’s previous funding round, highlighting strong investor confidence in the rapidly growing voice AI sector.

LiveKit is best known for powering OpenAI’s ChatGPT voice mode. Its customer base also includes major organizations such as xAI, Salesforce, Tesla, along with 911 emergency service operators and mental health providers.

Founded in 2021 by Russ d’Sa and David Zhao, LiveKit began as an open-source project designed to enable seamless real-time audio and video communication. The idea emerged during the pandemic, when global reliance on video conferencing tools like Zoom was at its peak.

While LiveKit initially offered its software as a free developer tool, the company gained significant traction after recognizing demand from large enterprises for a fully managed cloud solution. By catering to these needs, LiveKit successfully transitioned into a scalable business and capitalized on the accelerating adoption of voice-based AI technologies.
