Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: OpenAI Sets Its Sights on Enterprise AI Growth in 2026

OpenAI Sets Its Sights on Enterprise AI Growth in 2026:

OpenAI is sharpening its focus on enterprise customers as it prepares to ramp up business-facing AI sales in 2026, restructuring leadership to support the push.

According to a report from The Information, OpenAI has appointed Barret Zoph to lead its enterprise AI sales strategy, citing details from an internal company memo. TechCrunch has contacted OpenAI to confirm the move and gather additional context.

Zoph rejoined OpenAI last week after a short stint at Thinking Machine Labs, the AI startup founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati. He had served as a co-founder and CTO there since October 2024. The reasons behind his exit remain unclear, with speculation circulating about whether Zoph and other former OpenAI employees left voluntarily or were let go, possibly with plans to return to OpenAI from the start.

Before his time at Thinking Machine Labs, Zoph held the role of vice president of post-training inference at OpenAI from September 2022 to October 2024. His new position represents a significant shift in responsibilities and places him at the center of OpenAI’s efforts to strengthen its enterprise business—an area where the company has recently been losing momentum to rivals.

OpenAI entered the enterprise AI market early, launching ChatGPT Enterprise in 2023, well ahead of similar offerings from Anthropic and Google. The company says the product now serves more than 5 million business users and counts major organizations such as SoftBank, Target, and Lowe’s among its customers.
