Ring Introduces Video Verification Feature to Detect Edited or Tampered Footage:

Ring is rolling out a new feature designed to make it easier to verify whether videos recorded by its security cameras have been altered. The Amazon-owned company announced Ring Verify, a video authenticity tool that allows viewers to confirm whether footage has been edited or manipulated in any way.

The feature is intended for situations where videos are shared beyond the original owner, such as clips sent by neighbors or footage circulating online that claims to show a specific incident.

Ring compares the system to a tamper-evident seal on a medicine bottle. If a video is modified—even slightly, through actions like trimming a few seconds, adjusting brightness, applying filters, or cropping—the verification seal breaks, signaling that the footage has been changed.

Ring Verify will be automatically enabled on all videos recorded by Ring devices starting in December 2025. The company notes that any edits, including changes made by third-party platforms that compress video files, will cause the video to fail verification.

A failed verification doesn’t mean the footage is fake, Ring emphasizes. Instead, it simply indicates that the video has been altered at some point—whether for harmless reasons like improving visibility or because it was recorded before the feature was introduced.
