Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: Threads Tests One-Tap Shortcut to Instantly Start Direct Messages

Threads Tests One-Tap Shortcut to Instantly Start Direct Messages:

Threads is experimenting with a new feature designed to simplify direct messaging on the platform. The Meta-owned app announced that select users can now type “DM me” or “Message me” in a post or reply, which automatically turns the phrase into a clickable link that invites others to begin a private conversation.

When someone taps the generated link, they are taken straight to a one-on-one chat with the user. If both users follow each other, the message is delivered directly to the main inbox. If not, it is routed to the “Message Requests” folder to help limit spam and unwanted messages.

According to Threads, this shortcut eliminates the extra step of visiting someone’s profile to initiate a direct message.

Although Threads introduced native direct messaging later than some competing platforms, this new test signals a stronger focus on making private conversations a core part of the app experience by reducing friction and encouraging quicker interactions.
