Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: X Introduces ‘Paid Partnership’ Label to Boost Transparency for Sponsored Posts

X Introduces ‘Paid Partnership’ Label to Boost Transparency for Sponsored Posts:

X Corp. has rolled out a new “Paid Partnership” label, giving creators a built-in way to clearly mark sponsored content without relying on hashtags like #ad or #paidpartnership.

The update allows users to enable a “content disclose” setting when publishing a post, automatically attaching a visible Paid Partnership tag beneath the content. Creators can also apply the label after a post has gone live, offering flexibility if they forget to mark it initially.

The move aligns X with other social platforms that have long offered similar disclosure tools. For example, Instagram introduced branded content tags years ago after the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warned influencers in 2017 to clearly and conspicuously disclose sponsored relationships. More recently, Instagram expanded its Partnership Ads feature to include paid written testimonials in comment sections.

Until now, creators on X had no native disclosure tool, making hashtags the only option for signaling paid promotions. According to X’s head of product, Nikitia Bier, the new feature is designed to promote transparency between creators and their audiences while ensuring compliance with federal advertising regulations.

By formalizing sponsorship labels within the platform, X aims to improve trust and authenticity in influencer marketing while making regulatory compliance more seamless for creators.
