Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: YouTube Expands Conversational AI Tool to Smart TVs and Streaming Devices

YouTube Expands Conversational AI Tool to Smart TVs and Streaming Devices:

YouTube is bringing its conversational AI feature to the living room, extending the tool to smart TVs, gaming consoles, and streaming devices. The move signals growing competition to integrate advanced AI assistants into home entertainment experiences.

Previously available only on mobile and web platforms, the experimental feature now allows viewers to interact with an AI assistant directly from their television screens. Users can ask questions about the video they’re watching without interrupting playback or exiting the app.

According to YouTube’s support documentation, eligible users will see an “Ask” button on their TV interface. Selecting it opens the AI assistant, which suggests relevant questions based on the current video. Viewers can also use their remote’s microphone to ask custom questions — whether about recipe ingredients in a cooking video or the meaning behind song lyrics — and receive immediate responses on-screen.

The feature is currently limited to select users aged 18 and older and supports English, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, and Korean.

YouTube originally introduced the conversational AI tool in 2024 to help users engage more deeply with content. Its expansion to television comes as TV viewing continues to surge. An April 2025 report from Nielsen found that YouTube captured 12.4% of total TV audience time in the United States, outperforming major streaming platforms like Disney and Netflix.
