Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: YouTube to Introduce AI Likeness Tools for Creators in Shorts

YouTube to Introduce AI Likeness Tools for Creators in Shorts:

YouTube is preparing to roll out a new feature that will allow creators to produce Shorts using AI-generated versions of their own likeness. The announcement was made by YouTube CEO Neal Mohan, who revealed the update in his annual letter on Wednesday.

According to Mohan, creators will soon be able to generate Shorts featuring their digital likeness, create games using simple text prompts, and experiment with AI-powered music tools. He emphasized that YouTube views artificial intelligence as a creative aid rather than a substitute for human creators.

Shorts have become one of YouTube’s most popular formats, drawing an average of 200 billion daily views, as noted by Mohan. To maintain this momentum, YouTube continues to expand its investment in AI-driven tools for Shorts. While specific details about the AI likeness feature have not yet been disclosed, it will complement existing capabilities such as AI-generated video clips, stickers, automatic dubbing, and other creative enhancements.

In addition, YouTube plans to give creators greater control over how their likeness is used in AI-generated content. This follows the platform’s recent efforts to protect creators from misuse. In October, YouTube introduced likeness-detection technology for eligible creators, enabling them to identify AI-generated videos that replicate their face or voice and request their removal if necessary.

Together, these updates aim to balance creative freedom with stronger safeguards, as AI becomes more deeply integrated into YouTube’s content ecosystem.
